P079/2011

Unless you’re regularly flying “heavy metal” equipped aircraft with TCAS (Traffic Airborne Avoidance System) I shouldn’t bother to read this AIC in detail. However, anyone who flies a transponder equipped aircraft should do two things.

1. Always but always switch the transponder on as you do your final “Vital Actions” ensuring it’s in mode Charlie i.e. on ALT in older transponders or mode ACS if it’s a more recent one. IF THIS ITEM IS NOT ON YOUR CHECKLIST, ADD IT NOW.

2. Always switch the transponder to standby (STBY) as part of your “After landing“ checks. IF THIS ITEM IS NOT ON YOUR CHECKLIST, ADD IT NOW.
