This Friday, the 13th of March, Tom Rule has become the UK’s youngest pilot. He flew solo for the first time at around 11:10, just hours after he turned 16.
Aside from his flying activities, Tom is a keen rower for the Itchen Imperial Rowing Club Southampton, and is also studying for 14 and a half GCSEs. Geoff Prout, his instructor, has said that “he is an exceptionally bright boy, and a very quick learner.” Jason, Tom’s father said “I don’t know how he manages it all, the whole family are very proud”.
We had a TV crew down this morning to film all the action, make sure you watch Meridian news tonight at 6 o’clock.
